Cheeky cat caught stealing £5 packs of food from neighbour (2025)

A cat burglar was captured stealing gourmet pet food from her neighbour’s kitchen.

Dizzy the cat began bringing home £5 packs of Purina cat food, baffling her owner, Diane Le Marinel.

The 52-year-old was unaware that her mischievous pet was sneaking into another woman’s home and stealing the cat food from her kitchen.

Diane, a youth worker from South Shields, South Tyneside, said: ‘I saw Dizzy with these pouches in the garden and I thought, ‘I wonder where she’s got that from?’ I use Tesco cat food.

‘Then, I caught her with one of the Purina Gourmet pouches in her mouth on the back fence. I kept watching her when she went off, and she returned with another pouch. I realised she must have been pinching them.’

Diane said she felt awful and wanted to track down whoever Dizzy had been stealing food from to apologise.

In a desperate attempt to find Dizzy’s victim, she posted about the cat’s antics in a local Facebook group.

The post read: ‘Hi everyone, just a polite post. I’m really sorry, but I’ve caught my cat coming over the fence with pouches of cat food.

‘Four times within the last half an hour!!! If anyone’s supply is running low, I’ve found the culprit!’

Thankfully, Diane managed to locate the woman whom Dizzy had been stealing from, who thought the ordeal was hilarious.

She said: ‘I managed to find the woman who lives in a street close by. She found it hilarious. I bought her a new box of cat food as I know it’s expensive.

‘I felt quite bad about it. She said she thought she was going mad as she had noticed pouches missing.’

The woman thought her friend had been stealing them – Dizzy the cat had almost gotten away with the crime.

‘The lady has a boy cat so I think Dizzy must have been trying to get his attention,’ Diane laughed.

‘They must be boyfriend and girlfriend. Apparently, Dizzy was jumping into her garden, breaking into the kitchen, eating her cat’s food, and stealing the pouches.’
